This family remains a mystery because of lack of evidence that they are Mdewakanton. Most families can trace back to a chief, head warrior, fur trader, voyager, military man, prominent white man or a brief mention in some book written long before the 1862 fighting, but I could not find anything on the Bluestones. This family marries into the above mention lines but they lack a history of their own. Perhaps others can shed a light on their past. They have slight variations of blood degree for some members on the Federal censuses.

Is Adam Bluestone listed under Rebecca Adam Elk?
This is what I know of John Bluestone:
he marries Cordilia or Mahpiyakopopawin at Crow Creek and they have a son named Adam. Cordelia dies shortly after. Adam is raised by his grandmother Julia Oldman. Cordelia's first husband was John K. Henry.
Bluestone is Wahpekute not Mdewakanton. I have found him in some readings, don't recall off had. I will list them when I have time.

i have him as Tunkantoiciye. His first spouse was Hapstin. ther is some controverssy re. Adam Elk/Bluestone. In IronElk's probate he is listed as illegitimate. whereas in Julia Oldman's probate,I think,it was her probate, he is legitimatized.
After adam Elk was born, John returned to hhis first wife, according to some testimony re. iron elk's probate hearings .

Ok its been awhile since I looked at this family,
Is Tukantoiciye/John Bluestone the son of Anpetuokiyewin ?
And if so she is a sister to Iron Elk/Hehakamaza ?
When I asked Kardahl office if they knew who John Bluestones parents are , they told me they did not have his parents names.
I gave them Anpetuokiyewin and one of her husbands names.
I never heard if they found out anymore on John Bluestones parents.

Sorry I have been slow with responding, my mom has been in and out of the hospital. Today I brought my laptop to the hospital so that I could get caught up with my emails and writing.
Hermin I do not know of Mahpiyakopopawin returning to John K. Henry. She died shortly after Adam Elk was born. Her marriage to John Bluestone was done according to custom. Be careful with the words illegitimacy. I understand the Christian view of marriage and that it greatly differs from the Dakota/Lakota view. It is unfortunate that Christian minded people imposed their ideologies.
Sara, I didn't bring to much info with me. I will get what I can to okay.

Wakuta, was a name passed down from a line of Cheifs and it means The Shooter. It is said that when the new Cheif took over he gave his name to the successor. So yes I do believe they had other names before. Hope this helps. Sisco

Located in downtown Mendota on Sibley Memorial Highway (State Hwy. 13), two miles west of Interstate 35E, and one quarter-mile east of the Mendota bridge (State Hwy. 55). Dakota canoe and paddles, about 1890-1900 John and Sam Bluestone, makers MHS Museum Collections/ Sibley House Historic Site SH144, 145a-b This is a rare surviving example of a Dakota-made birch bark canoe. Its hand-sewn panels and cedar ribs were constructed by John Bluestone (Tukantoiciya), a Mdewakanton Dakota born in 1835, whose descendants are members of the Lower Sioux Indian Community at Morton, Minnesota. His son, Sam Bluestone (Herakamani), carved the cedar paddles. The canoe is distinct from better-known Ojibwe canoe styles of the period in that the bow and stern are narrow and pointed rather than full and rounded. The donor, C. J. Clarkson, operated a ferry on the Minnesota River and was a neighbor of the Bluestone family when they lived in Mendota around 1895.

If you look at my Bluestone tree, you will see that the children listed under Harry Bluestone are also listed under Samuel Bluestone, Jr. I found them under Samuel on the 1934 Mdewakanton Sioux Rolls and listed under Harry Bluestone on the Oyate family tree for Bluestones on page 1. I am leaving them like this until I get any kind of confirmation; however, I believe they should be with Samuel as their father. Any ideas on this? I am not sure what the source records are for that family tree on page 1.

ponca lady:in oneof my seaarch for records ds on the bluestones, I found Kate Bluestone Age 74 ,born Minnesota, parents born Minnesotalisted as living with the Henry Cloud family. Reference: 1880 US Census for Eagle Creek,Scott,Minnesota.
Woould you know who she is, and how she was related to the Henry Cloud family?
